Chauthi in Tulunadu!

As the gloomy phase of “aati” ends, we are greeted with the first of many festivities celebrated in Tulunadu. Ganesh Chaturthi or Chauthi as we call it, is one of the widely celebrated festivals in Tulunadu, although, each household does the same in their own way.

However, with a lot of people being away from home for work or studies, we feel like these celebrations are slowly dying down, only to be kept alive by the parents! Many of us at Team Wotrasi ourselves have not been home for Chauthi for sometime now. We decided to take some time out this year to spend this day with our families and pen down a couple of our fondest memories of the festival of Ganesha…

It is also the only few times of the year that cleaning our rooms and the house seemed fun, maybe because the entire family came together to do it!

The “Deverna Kone” would look all pretty and decked up with flowers, karmbu and deepas. Even the tulasi katte would look really pretty!

We loved our small pooja followed by the bhajane by the family members. This would be followed by serving food on a banana leaf for God, waiting for like 10  min and then FINALLY getting to eat all the yummy food as prasada!

Even as kids, we might not remember the festival or its significance, but we most certainly remembered that every year there comes this time when we get to eat as much karmbu as we want. We also got scolded by mom or granny every year without fail for eating the karmbu without keeping it for Lord Ganesha first. We would be lying if we told you that the same did not happen today as well (on more than 1 ocassion)!

We also got the amazing smelling Muddale, to be kept as prasada and would later serve as a natural room freshener for the house  all year long!

Well, these are our fondest memories of Chauthi. This year we are making a conscious effort to help out at home and keep the tradition alive and we hope you are too! Do let us know if you have the same memories as us or if you have different way of celebrating, we would love to hear from you…

Happy Chauthi you guys! Our prayers are with you and your family…
